Yes, that’s right. Our feet are both bigger and wider than what they were three decades ago. On average our shoe size has increased by two sizes. There are some simple reasons for this increase.
Number one – we are much taller than we once were.
Number two – we are also heavier.
With the extra height and weight, our feet have adapted to this change becoming longer and wider as a result. As we age more the ligaments and tendons that support our feet become less elastic and our feet begin to spread. Yeah! Squeezing feet into narrow shoes are not doing them any favours.
